Think outside the box -    - more than just a broker 

In February 2012 Mr. Jan Erik Schulte founded COE Shipping with the aim to assist small Ship Owners. He considered himself to be the ambassador to the Owners. Especially for Owners with smaller fleets who cannot afford a full Chartering/Operations department, COE Shipping is the right choice as a partner.

Mr. Schulte gained a lot of experience by working for Owners as well as Time Charterers. The different working environments offered him the opportunity to view the shipping industry from different angles and perspectives. He learned to work out the best solutions depending on which side he stood on. He is equally efficient for Owners as well as Charterers when it comes to reducing costs.

In January 2013 the legal structure of the company was changed from a small personal company (Einzelunternehmen) called COE Shipping Inhaber Jan Erik Schulte into COE Shipping GmbH & Co. KG. With this change there came a lot of new sections that build the core business of the company.

As from the 01st of July 2014 COE Shipping GmbH & Co. KG expanded its range in the Shipping Industry and registered as Port Agency for all  German Baltic ports. 

In June 2016 the next big change in the development of COE Shipping GmbH & Co. KG took place by Mr. Laust Lunding Smith entering as Partner. He is filling the position of Managing Director together with Jan Erik Schulte. 

Mr. Smith acquired his extensive experience in the MPP market during his time with many of the major players in the industry. He worked his way up into the management level of several of them before he decided that his experience is better served to all of them instead of just one.

Additionally to the Ship Owners Freese Shipping, who supported COE Shipping from the beginning with their fleet, Mr. Schulte and Mr. Smith secured the full support of Messrs. BD Shipsnavo GmbH & Co. Reederei KG and the Dopp Family from Haren, Ems. Including these two Owners, COE Shipping is taking care of a growing fleet of MPP and Bulk Cargo vessels.

In 2018 COE2Sea is founded and employs MV COE Laura (ex MV Active) as first vessel under their charter. 

In 2020 Mr. Freese and COE Shipping parted ways thus COE Shipping was able to re-direct the activities to strengthen COE2Sea and  concentrating on competitive projects.

In July of the same year COE Shipping also extended their Agency Service by entering into a joint venture with Hahn Transport GmbH to form COE-Hahn Agency in order to cover all german Ports.

In June/July 2021 H&S Hafenstauerei in Lubmin closed down and continued as COE Logistics GmbH & Co. KG in order to expand the service to road and rail under the supervision of Mr Christian Hellmann and his team in Rostock.

2022 is a particularly active year in the company history, starting with a small but comprehensive milestone; the aquisition of the new vicinity in the old town of Buxtehude in January 2022. The building is over 200 years old and represents to COE Shipping the stability and consistency of the shipping industry. After renovating for 7 month the Team moved in August of 2022. 

In March 2022 Hahn Transport and COE Shipping parted ways again, which lead to the termination of COE-Hahn Agency.

in June 2022 COE2Sea added MV COE Kaethe to the portfolio as asset and chance to start into a new market for the Company. Coaster trade. Of course COE Rostock is working the shortsea market already but not as owners. The next step in that direction was the addition of MV COE Mieke, which joined the  fleet in October 2022 followed by MV COE Mina in December of the same year.

There will be more exciting projects to be mastered in the future. And COE Shipping with all their Partners and dedicated personnel will meet each of the challanges head on with passion and pride, never losing sight of the initial reason that lead Jan Erik Schulte to establish this company;  To be the Ambassadors to our Clients.

After 10 years of our company history COE Shipping might have diversified the areas of expertise and do not focus solely on small ship owners anymore but the core value remains.
